Pretty vintage lace

This beautiful lace is the skirt from a vintage petticoat that my very kind auntie sent me. Its about 80 years old - a little fragile - and very pretty.

I am still deciding on its transformation: maybe under a protective layer of plastic as part of a bag? I do feel a little nervous, however, about taking scissors to vintage lace!

How would you use it? Any ideas?

While I think about its next incarnation, its living in this pretty case that Mum gave me for Christmas.

  2. I like pottymouthmama's suggestion of framing it. That would be lovely on the wall.

  3. I don't think I could bear cutting it!! But maybe as embellishments on purses/bags/clothes? I've seen some beautiful pillows made with vintage doilies! Happy Australia Day!!!

  4. I don't know what I would do with it - sorry - I would be thinking much the same as you.

I just love your little case - I haven't seen one like that before!

  5. I'm with the framing idea. I also like your idea of keeping it under plastic and making a bag.

You could also make a beautiful vintage inspired collage and frame it in a shadow box.

  6. Ooh, I couldn't cut it. I've got a framed portion of a wonderful embroidered crazy quilt, and I love to look at it. It preserves it and you might value it even more in the future.

  8. Don't think I could bring myself to cut it! :o Scary!

How cool is it to have relatives that think of you when they want to pass things on. I have a melancholy feeling no one is going to remember me...wahhh!!! :p

  11. if you did cut it, do you have other relatives who would also like a piece - and framed maybe with a mountcard similar to your case lining (in monochrome if red is too much for you) could be good xmas or birthday pressies.

  12. I've got a lovely book on sewing/refashioning vintage fabrics - I'll lend it to you (at the next Brown Owls maybe? or we could meet up once school is back). Lovely case, and lovely lace. I would use it, and maybe frame leftovers (I really like dearmolly's suggestion)
