Three weeks

Our Mr HB went away
For three long, long weeks
A "technical conference", he did claim
(methinks: sightseeing with beer and geeks)

As is custom, the minute he left
The computer went on the blink
The phone line developed a fault
And an odd smell came from the sink

To add to this, there was an intruder
In our carport one dark 4 a.m.
Then shortly aft we all got viruses
That created a load of phlegm

The children's need to engage
In hand-to-hand combat
Meant dreams of craft or blogging
Remained nothing more; just that

I'd like to think that solo parenting
I handled with great aplomb
But frankly that stop ringing true
The minute I shouted: I want to resign as Mum

Welcome home Mr HB, I've really missed ....
... my sewing machine

  4. Bloody hell! I hope as you typed that you were sitting with cocktail in hand, being massaged by a personal masseuse as Mr HB cleaned the house wearing only an apron you were able to whip up uninterupted.

  8. Gawd, it'd be the 4am garage intruder that freaked me out. I really do think of Mister Fixit as being essential to home security, and get stupidly nervous when he goes away. Can't even sleep with the windows open because I'm such a wuss.

What happened? Did you call the cops?

  10. Oh boy. Sounds like a hell of a way to spend three weeks. Hope you are recovering and sewing like a maniac and spending lots of child free time in bars and cafes and movies. Or maybe you are just sleeping. Sleep is good. Glad he's back xo

  12. Oh wow - I wondered if you had been overpowered by Lego Jedi or kept captive by Arg and Bargy. As if the rest is not bad enough the intruder - sounds very scary!
Hope all is well now, you should plan a weekend craft retreat!

  13. What everyone else says - that is some major craft time you are owed. How about now he's back you say you are going away on a conference for 3 weeks and pop over and confer with me! :D

    Well done Mum.

Just in case nobody round yours has said it lately.

    Well done Mum.

    zzzzzz.

    Cheers,
    AJ

  16. human intruder or animal? Brian is away for a week at his annual work conference, or as I like to call it, vacation--a week in an air-conditioned hotel? All his meals prepared? Expense account so he can have sushi for dinner one night?

  20. I hope the getting to know your sewing machine again is a satisfying experience! You're amazing - I couldn't do it for that long. I start losing the plot after about 24 hours at the moment!

  23. Congratulations on surviving... such a hard gig solo parenting. I have such deep admiration for all full-time solo parents out there... I just don't think I could do it.
