I am joining in with Thursday's My Creative Space at Kootoyoo.
Clockwise from left:
- Medium weight denim
- Chocolate grosgrain ribbon stitched in place
- Start of some (wobbly) hand-stitching in cream
- Ribbon scraps and petersham rosettes, awaiting placement
Welcome to the House of Hoppo Bumpo, home of the slipshod garment.
This week I present to you the makings of a skirt. I've traced the pattern from another well-worn A-line skirt. It is cut from two pieces, has a facing rather than a waistband, darts at the back and a side zipper. The shape is strangely wobbly - possibly mirroring my body shape.
The fabric and ribbon embellishments are bargain basement bits and pieces from the stash. The embroidery in progress is dodgy.
And I guess sitting on the floor to sew is a bit questionable? But as they say: a numb bottom and crooked seams are a small price to pay for a good view of the television.
Thank you very much Kirsty for hosting My Creative Space. Its great fun seeing what everyone is doing. To see who else is showing their creative space (or to join in), head over here.
that looks like it takes extreme coordination, and maybe painkillers for the back afterward? ;)
ReplyDeletesounds like you are having fun!
all makes for a beautiful garment i bet...:)
ReplyDeleteAh, you are a better woman than me. I haven't done the old "sewing machine on the floor" technique for years. I am getting too old. I used to use my knee for the foot. Your dexterity with your foot is awesome. Love the makings of the skirt.
ReplyDeleteGreat space...Never even thought about sewing on the floor...Interesting!!! ;)
ReplyDeletei sew like that all the time, but usually because the desk is covered in junk lol
ReplyDeletelike the carpet :D
Whatever works, I say! You must be a bit more flexible than me though - LOL!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the position I sewed my latest quilt together in! Snap!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks fabulous. Can't wait to see the finished skirt :) K
ReplyDeleteThe rosettes are stunning - gorgeous colours!
ReplyDeleteWow, I like your unusual sewing technique! Your rosettes are lovely xo
ReplyDeleteThat pic of you on the floor is just about the best thing I've seen! xx
ReplyDeleteLiesl, this post should come with a 'don't try this at home' warning ;) If I tried to sew on the floor like that I'd never get up again!
ReplyDelete(The skirt looks fab by the way)
Whoah there, I feel like we've just swapped places! A few days ago I finished my first skirt-from-a-pattern... only to find my go-to sewing Heroine getting all quick-and-dirty on me.
ReplyDeleteLove it, of course. I particularly love the hand-stitching. I'm about to do a similar thing on my new skirt... but in red, of course.
That skirt is looking devine...! I mean, really really... I want to see more!
ReplyDeleteI am super impressed by the floor sewing... no way could I do that!
Thanks for giving me a much needed laugh Leisl. That floor sewing technique is trully awesome. Awesome I tell you!
ReplyDeleteI honestly laughed out loud looking at that picture of you sewing on the floor. The skirt sounds lovely. What are you watching on tv that's so good?
ReplyDeleteUm, I think my sewing technique might be helped by the fact that I can do this too!
ReplyDeleteOMG I'm impressed by that body origami!
ReplyDeleteBeing of medical mind....what the bloody hell is wrong with your legs?! How do you get around! How do your shoes cope with that kind of wear and tear?
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of sewing on the floor - very funny. Peta
That picture of your feet is very funny :-) I never tried sewing on the floor like that, but I guess I mostly wouldn't dare to do that because of all the little ones who would want to come close to see what that little needle is doing :-) Now I am curious to know what you were watching on the television!
ReplyDeleteYou are HILARIOUS! And I'm mighty impressed at your co-ordination, flexibility and obvious tenacity!
ReplyDeleteI admire your flexibility! Looks like it will be a great addition to the your wardrobe - denim skirts are so versatile and the stitching will be a great feature.
ReplyDeletenow you are showing off. love the skirt. but please wear jeans when you engage in contortionist sewing
ReplyDeleteI once used a wooden tv tray (do you have those down under?) to piece a big quilt for my FIL for Christmas. I wanted to watch Lord of the Rings while I did it :) It worked great!!
ReplyDelete....but where do you put the wine?????
ReplyDeleteYou are hilarious! As long as it gets the job done, I say. I do love the embellishments on your skirt - very classy!
ReplyDeleteSuper freak. Super freak. Super freaky!
ReplyDeleteIn the nicest possible way of course.
Chocolate and cream, it all sounds delectable.
ReplyDeleteAhh, the things we do...what was so good on the telly?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing the skirt!
Oh, this is so funny! Can't wait to see how the skirt turns out!
ReplyDeleteWow! I don't think my body would LET me do that!!!
