Can we re-fashion it? Yes we can.

Here is yesterday's project: a boy-sized visibility vest.

Its part Bob-the-Builder; part sophisticated Boy Tracking Device. I was inspired by a canny, op-shopping friend, who picked up a similar vest for a song, then altered it for her 3 year-old. You can see her little boy anywhere at the park in those reflective strips. Genius.

For this re-fashion I cut a new shape from an adult vest, added a bias binding trim and a new Velcro closure. A second Find-Me-At-The-Park vest is underway, so that the boys will have one each. They will be very handy, as during playground visits Argy is prone to ensconcing himself in dense shrubbery and Bargy is a good, old-fashioned bolter.

Which makes me think: attaching a long piece of retractable elastic to each vest probably wouldn't go astray.

  1. Sensational idea! The elastic made me laugh though. Kids flying from the shrubbery to mum!

  3. You could make some matching reflective pants too, with reflective cuffs!! When I was a kid I would have *loved* reflective clothes.

I'm having visions of a park at night, with the Wiggles pumped on the stereo, little kiddie ravers everywhere in their toddler sized reflective phat pants... ahahaha awesome!

  5. I love it - kid cool and useful. Maybe a fishing reel for attachment could be a good option and then you could reel them in at the end of play

  6. So cute, and a great idea. Maybe you could stitch bells onto it to so you have a sound and vision vest.

  8. How adorable. I bet the boys love wearing them too. I've got a young runner on my hands who could use a visibility vest too!
