I got it from one edition of The Joy of Cooking (unfortunately, my copy has been lost), but that edition had been updated and the recipe has been changed to include egg. If you have any no-egg gingy type cookie recipes, I'd love to try them.Raven Knightehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13852773096154984316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3293493646747440510.post-80369698908896987582008-12-04T15:55:00.000+11:002008-12-04T15:55:00.000+11:00I am eagerly awaiting the results. I have a great egg substitute for bake goods (don't use for recipes over 3 eggs) 2 1/2 Tablespoons of fresh ground flax seed + 3 Tablespoons of hot water, mix til thickens and add as recipe calls. My family has never known the difference!;)The Brockshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09204511824257991846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3293493646747440510.post-19921804552607075462008-11-23T23:11:00.000+11:002008-11-23T23:11:00.000+11:00yes, I'd like to learn more about making a gingerb...yes, I'd like to learn more about making a gingerbread house...and I like your scientific approach to these matters. I've been wanting to make one for years but despite collect a book full of recipes and instructions still haven't tackled it. It all seems a bit intimidating. Do you eat the finished thing? Doesn't it go soggy if you leave it out for decoration in Australia, do ants ever share your little house etc etc?!SadieandLancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04083216783467316109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3293493646747440510.post-89283342067532515412008-11-23T18:12:00.000+11:002008-11-23T18:12:00.000+11:00I've never tried making egg-free royal icing, but ...I've never tried making egg-free royal icing, but we have substituted caramelized sugar when gluing gingerbread house pieces together. We did this because the sugar sets even faster than royal icing (and proceeded to decorate with royal icing), but if you have a substitute decorative icing that just isn't strong enough to be structural this might be an option.ikkinlalahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04832919596884346022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3293493646747440510.post-50570910121168393392008-11-23T15:55:00.000+11:002008-11-23T15:55:00.000+11:00Well, *I'll* be following along with great interes...Well, *I'll* be following along with great interest! My religious dietary restrictions include no eggs, so I have spent YEARS passing over cake designs because of the requirement of royal icing!

BTW, I'm betting that egg replacer, the Orgran-whatever one, won't work, since you aren't heating it and activating the binding stuff in it. But I'm interested to see if I am right! ;Dmuralimanoharhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14422995764649985209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3293493646747440510.post-89604496555018392922008-11-23T11:33:00.000+11:002008-11-23T11:33:00.000+11:00We use egg replacer as Moo has an egg intolerance ...We use egg replacer as Moo has an egg intolerance - I wonder if the Ogran stuff would work???? I recall that it was prone to cracking (fine cracks, not major ones that compromised structural stability!), but it still worked fine. Good luck, I'll be interested to know how it goes.Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01698895263411758914noreply@blogger.com
